2022
The Dawn of a New Era
Marking the launch of a transformative multimillion-euro investment by MHV Group, work begins on a project that promises to change the face of Nicosia and add value to the urban landscape. Two iconic towers, designed as architectural feats, commence construction alongside the comprehensive repositioning of the revered 5-star hotel. The unique fusion of residential, business, and hospitality spaces encapsulates the ethos of modern, sustainable, and luxurious living that MHV Group exemplifies.
2010's
Prelude to Renewal
The hotel continues to stand out as a preferred destination for both leisure and business travellers. While the inviting pools, restaurants, and spa treatments cater to those seeking relaxation, Hilton Cyprus also emerges as a prime venue for international conferences, equipped to host up to 1,000 delegates. A significant shift takes place in 2019, when Vibrana Holdings Ltd. (now known as MHV Mediterranean Hospitality Venture PLC) acquires ownership and rebrands the hotel as The Landmark Nicosia. As 2021 concludes, the hotel gears up for a grand transformation.
2000's
A Millennium Milestone
Hilton Cyprus enters the new millennium with vigour, hosting the 2000 Miss Universe pageant and garnering international media spotlight. The same year marks a change in ownership as Louis Tourist Agency Limited assumes control. In tune with the digital age, the hotel becomes a pioneer in Nicosia as one of the first establishments to offer high-speed wireless internet. This era also sees a parade of illustrious visitors from the cinematic world like actress Ornella Muti and music composer Mikis Theodorakis, and dignitaries such as UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
1990's
Continuous Evolution
Post-transformation, Hilton Cyprus soars to new heights. With facilities now aligned to global standards, the hotel becomes a beehive of activity. The four new “Meeting 2000” rooms, designed for gatherings of up to 35 participants, quickly gain popularity, and a surge in charity dinners, exhibitions, product launches and other events attracts thousands of people. The decade also sees visits from heads of state, European Commissioners, nobility, and other distinguished figures, such as Olympic legend Carl Lewis and astronaut Neil Armstrong.
1992
A Pivotal Transformation
A multi-million, three-year upgrading project gets underway, culminating in the unveiling of a brand-new Executive Wing. Extensive refurbishments modernise public areas with the latest technology, the presidential floor, exclusive to VIPs, receives an impressive makeover, and the new atrium, evoking Nicosia’s old city charm, spotlights traditional craftsmanship. Additional enhancements include revamped dining venues, shops, a hair salon, a business centre, an arcade, a health club with the city’s first indoor pool, and the introduction of 84 luxurious new rooms.
1980's
Expansion and Esteemed Guests
In June 1983, a new wing adds 92 rooms, increasing the room count to 224. In the lively 80s, Hilton Cyprus begins hosting major food festivals, flying in chefs from across the globe, and introduces the Manager’s Cocktail. The highly entertaining Derek Nimmo Theatre productions, known as Dinner Theatre, consistently draw full houses, and the hotel’s 20th-anniversary gala becomes the talk of the town. Notable figures, including UN Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim and Indian President Ramaswamy Venkataraman, grace the hotel with their presence.
1970's
Diplomacy and Resilience
Hilton Cyprus welcomes high society weddings, elite fashion shows, and film stars like Raquel Welch and Danny Kaye. It also becomes the venue for the first top-level Middle East peace talks between Andrei Gromyko and Henry Kissinger. In summer 1974, the Turkish invasion of Cyprus transforms the hotel into a UN meeting point and a place of refuge. During these times, the essence of hospitality shines brighter than ever.
1967
The Birth of An Icon
In an inauguration ceremony held on February 2nd, 1967, President Makarios, officially opens the Hilton Cyprus hotel. As the first and only 5-star hotel of its time on the island, Hilton Cyprus immediately takes centre stage in the country’s business, lifestyle, and political scenes. For over five decades, it will welcome heads of state, royalty, and world-renowned personalities, solidifying its position as a vital part of Nicosian society and an integral part of Cyprus’ history.
1962
A Historic Moment
In June 1962, President Makarios, the first President of Cyprus, visits the United States at the invitation of President John F. Kennedy. During his visit, he meets in New York with Conrad Hilton, owner of the Hilton Hotel chain. Amidst the ideal climate of political stability and economic growth following Cyprus’ second year of independence, the two visionary men swiftly close a deal for the construction of the first Hilton Hotel in Nicosia.
